Introduction
Overview
The Bioinformatics Center of BGI-Shenzhen aims to support large-scale DNA sequencing. It is responsible for data collection, processing, management, and deep mining. We are working to maximize the utility of huge genome data of human and a broad range of organisms, to further our understanding of life secret and improve health.

The center is widely recognized as one of the biggest and most productive bioinformatics research facilities in China. There are over 100 scientists, with background of biology, physics, mathematics, medicine, computer science, and engineering. We are developing methods and computational tools to handle data analysis, and constructing database with user-friendly interface to facilitate knowledge transmission. We are putting most resource on biological and biomedical research with strong interests in genome annotation, molecular evolution, and genetic association studies to discover molecular background of complex disease. There is a strong high-performance computing platform with 50TFlops peak floating-point computing capability, 9.5Tb RAM, and 5p storage, to match the speed of data production. The platform is open for scientific service.
